Idris Elba is now Sir Idris Elba. The actor received a knighthood in the 2026 New Year Honours, acknowledging his work on screen and his activism off it.
The honour highlights his decades-long career and his commitment to youth causes through the Elba Hope Foundation, which he runs with his wife, Sabrina. Elba has also been a vocal campaigner against knife crime.
He accepted the title as a tribute to the “talent, ambition and resilience” of young people worldwide.
Other honourees include football manager Sarina Wiegman, actress Meera Syal, and TV personalities Matt Lucas and Richard Osman.
