Tunisia have dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following their crushing 5–1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F match at the FIFA World Cup, according to journalist Romain Molina, who reported the news on his X account.
The decision marks the first known instance in World Cup history of a national team coach being sacked after just the first round of group-stage matches.
The encounter, held at the BBVA Stadium in Guadalupe, Mexico, saw Sweden dominate from start to finish, with the Tunisian side suffering a heavy blow to their tournament hopes.
Sweden and Tunisia are competing in Group F alongside the Netherlands and Japan, who played out a 2–2 draw in their opening fixture. Sweden's emphatic victory over Tunisia propelled them to the top of the group standings.
Looking
ahead to the second round of matches, Sweden will face the Netherlands on June
20, while Tunisia will take on Japan on June 21 in a bid to revive their
campaign.
