Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, a former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS) and pioneer Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has passed away.

His son, Donald Horsfall, announced the death in a statement released Friday on behalf of the family. He said the elder statesman and prominent Rivers State son died peacefully after a fulfilled and impactful life dedicated to God, his family, his community, Rivers State, and Nigeria.

The family described Horsfall as a "beloved patriarch" and said they were mourning an "irreparable loss," drawing comfort from the extraordinary life he lived and the enduring legacy he left behind. His son added that his father's memory would continue to inspire all who knew him and benefited from his knowledge, experience, and compassion.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, the family said.

The statement portrayed Horsfall as an illustrious son of the Niger Delta and a distinguished public servant, statesman, and administrator—one of the most respected figures in the history of Rivers State and Nigeria.
