Cameroon secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South Africa on Tuesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will face tournament hosts Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions established control with a goal in each half. Defender Junior Tchamadeu broke the deadlock just before halftime in the 41st minute, finishing a well-worked move. Midfielder Christian Kofane then doubled the lead early in the second period, scoring in the 54th minute to seemingly put the game out of reach.
South Africa, pushed to the brink, mounted a dramatic late comeback attempt. Striker Evidence Makgopa pulled a goal back in the 88th minute, finishing from close range after a pinpoint long pass from Aubrey Modiba to set up a tense finale.
However, Cameroon managed the remaining minutes professionally, seeing out the victory to set up a blockbuster last-eight clash with Morocco at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat on Friday.
