Russia Condemns U.S. "Armed Aggression" in Venezuela, Calls for UN Meeting

Russia has formally denounced U.S. military action in Venezuela as an act of "armed aggression," calling for restraint and demanding an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting. The condemnation follows confirmed strikes by U.S. forces and explosive reports regarding the status of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the operations, asserting that Maduro had been captured and removed from the country. Venezuelan officials reported explosions in the capital, Caracas, and several states, declaring a state of emergency and accusing Washington of seeking control over the nation's resources.

"The latest strikes are a U.S. military operation aimed at changing an 'undesirable' regime," stated Leonid Slutsky, head of the Russian State Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee. Moscow reiterated its solidarity with Venezuela, emphasizing that Latin America must remain a "zone of peace" and that Caracas has the right to self-determination free from foreign interference.

The escalation follows prolonged tensions, with the U.S. accusing Maduro's government of drug trafficking and authorizing expanded military operations in the region. Maduro has consistently rejected these claims, framing them as a pretext for regime change and vowing to resist any direct military intervention.
